Every horse has a story. It’s our mission at the CT Equus Film Festival to share these stories, through film, art, photography, and more. EQUUS strives to bring a greater awareness and understanding to the unique relationship between horses and the humans who love them.

This October join us for an entire weekend of films about horses! The festival is divided into four screening blocks: Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. 7:00 PM ADDED YEARS
An immersive glimpse into an aging man’s daily expression of love, devotion, and commitment to his horses and the joy and optimism they bring him.

7:15 PM BOY NOMAD
Follow a year in the life of 9-year old Janibek, who lives with his family in Mongolia’s Altai Mountains. His first love is racing horses, but this winter, his father will bring him on the toughest journey in a nomad’s life: the winter migration.

7:45 PM DAUGHTERS OF THE POLO GOD
Manipur, India is considered the birthplace of modern polo – often thought of as a game of the rich and dominated by men. However, a quiet revolution is taking place. Manipuri women from humble backgrounds are shattering stereotypes that polo is a only game for men and privilege. Today, the State has about two dozen women professional polo players representing two-thirds of all women polo players in India.

8:20 PM LADY LONG RIDER
On her 50th birthday, Bernice Ende planned a visit to her sister via a 2000-mile horseback ride from Montana to New Mexico. In Lady Long Rider, Bernice shares the miles of insight she gained on the horseback ride that ultimately became a 15-year 30,000-mile journey of self discovery.

1:00 PM HEALING WITH HORSES
It is so amazing to see the healing work of horses. More than just the physical level, these animals affect our hearts, souls, spirits and mind. Kelsey’s spine was nearly severed after a life-altering car accident. Four months later she started riding horses as part of her physical therapy. Adaptive Vaulting brought a newfound sense of hope and healing to her recovery.

1:20 PM AMISH 2.0
Will the Amish beat the Internet age? On the website of the small village of Gabrill in the state of Indiana, visitors are kindly requested not to photograph the Amish people, as they have a deep-seated aversion of the camera. However, this documentary provides a rare peek into the world of the usually isolated Amish Community.

2:20 PM TALES OF ICELAND
The gorgeous horses and wonderful people of Iceland have lived in symbiosis for over 1,000 years. This documentary tells the story of the unique, caring, and loving bond between Icelandic humans and horses.

3:30 PM THE SECRET OF COROLLA
This is the story of the wild Colonial Spanish Horses found on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and how they have made those islands their home. It’s a story of perseverance… Not just by the horses, but also by the people who call this very special place their home.

7:00 PM ARROW
Twenty years after being stolen, trafficked across the American West, and nearly killed, Arrow is saved by Gabriela McAllister, a healer determined to find out who he is and where he came from. When she learns he’s a rare Choctaw Mustang she knows she must reunite him with the man who raised him and who still safeguards this special breed. This is the story of their reunion.

7:20 PM WALK ON
Kendra Johnson was born with a severe physical disability. The doctors didn’t know if she would live — let alone walk. Kendra’s mom sought out every possible form of therapy. The solution came in the form of four hoofs and a saddle. Kendra is now crushing every obstacle in her way. No one expected Kendra to achieve so much in so little time, nor did they think horses would play such a large role in it.

7:30 PM LEAD CHANGE,
On a trip to Buenos Aires, 32 year old Dale Johnson saw a a pair of polo boots on display in a store. “Those boots are badass, I gotta get into that” he thought. Three years later Dale became a nationally ranked polo player, who along with his horse, Sunny, has taken the sport by storm.

7:45 PM COWBOYS A DOCUMENTARY PORTRAIT.
Told in the cinematic tradition of classic westerns, COWBOYS gives viewers the opportunity to ride alongside modern working cowboys on some of America’s largest and most remote cattle ranches. Narrated first-hand from the cowboys themselves, the story is steeped in authenticity and explores the rewards and hardships of a celebrated but misunderstood way of life.

12:15 PM THE MUSTANG AMERICA’S WILD HORSES
From Executive Producers Robert Redford, Patti Scialfa Springsteen, and Jessica Springsteen, comes the stirring documentary about the wild horses that roam the west in the United States. This is the fascinating and colorful story of America’s Mustangs, their history, their current status and uncertain future. A Palace Encore Presentation.

This short film explores the work of Bruce Anderson, native of Trinidad and Tobago, and the programs that he has created over a lifetime of work with horses and people. Anderson provides an alternative philosophy of “People Helping Horses: Horses Helping People” while addressing human needs for basic survival through environmental forces.

4:00 PM WILD HORSE ROAD TRIP
A documentary about a family that takes off across the United States in an RV to adopt two bonded wild Mustang mares name the Soul Sisters, and bring them back to their forever home. Family friendly and fun for all ages! Great adventure. Incredible raw footage.
