Rock, Roll & Soul with Liberty Devitto & The Slim Kings
and Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez
Saturday February 24, 2018 @8PM
Join us at The Palace for a great big night of Rock, Roll, and Soul when Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez share the stage with legendary drummer Liberty Devitto and his new band The Slim Kings.
Liberty Devitto has done it all!
He’s played to sold out stadiums around the world, recorded multi-platinum records, and has backed some of the most iconic musicians in the world. For 30 years Liberty was the drummer for Billy Joel’s band and played on every one of Billy’s hits up until 2006. Just pick up one of the 150 million copies of Billy Joel records sold in the last 30 years and you’ll hear why Liberty is called “THE songwriter’s drummer.”
If you’ve ever had the opportunity to see this human dynamo in concert, then you will certainly agree that Liberty Devitto is the undisputed champion of drummers.
Aside from Billy Joel, Liberty has always kept high-profile company. Spanning his career, he has played with Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Ronnie Spector, Karen Carpenter, Phoebe Snow, Elton John, and many, many more. In 2013 he was inducted into The Classic Drummer’s Hall of Fame.
The Slim Kings: If you like raw, no-holds-barred music… that’s not afraid to get down and dirty… with just the right amount of rock and soul thrown in for good measure, then look no further than Brooklyn’s finest, The Slim Kings. Alongside drummer Liberty Devitto, The Slim Kings feature singer and guitarist Michael Sackler -Berner, best known for his songs on Sons of Anarchy, and R&B bassist Andy Attanasio, known for work with Puff Daddy.
The Beehive Queen knows how to rock & roll!
Christine Ohlman is a one-of-a-kind blues, rock and soul singer, known for her giant platinum beehive hairdo, vocal work on SNL, and star-studded performances. The Beehive Queen mixes a fiery brand of rootsy Americana with an old-school soul music flavor. In 2017 she was inducted into the National Blues Hall of Fame. Closer to home- she has been named a “Living Legend” by both the New Haven and Hartford Advocates.
A seasoned performer after her 24+ years as lead singer of the Saturday Night Live band, Ohlman has sung over the years at such high-profile gigs as Bob Dylan’s 30th anniversary bash, the 2009 Obama inaugural gala in Washington, D.C., The Lincoln Center “American Songbook” series with Sting, Lou Reed and Van Dyke Parks, the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Concert in Cleveland, and the Central Park Summerstage Tribute to Janis Joplin (fronting both Big Brother & The Holding Company and the Kozmic Blues Band).
Ohlman delivers a song like few others are doing these days – from the heart… from the gut… and with a whole lotta soul.
Rebel Montez, her band, is Cliff Goodwin (a Massachusetts native) on guitar and vocals, Michael Colbath on bass and vocals, and Larry Donahue on drums and percussion. All excellent musicians, this is one tight band with a lot of chemistry.
