Gene Bertoncini plays the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim!

Gene Bertoncini is one of today's pre-eminent jazz guitarists. His fluid technique and lyricism have won him international praise and accolades as the "Segovia of jazz." An eloquent and versatile improviser, Mr. Bertoncini has been heard with an extraordinary range of jazz greats, including performances and recordings with Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Wayne Shorter, Hubert Laws, Paul Desmond among others, as well as such distinguished singers as Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Nancy Wilson, Vic Damone, and Eydie Gorme.

The Washington Post proclaimed his solo appearance in New York City the best jazz concert of the year 1999. Mr. Bertoncini's acclaim is hardly confined to this country. His CD, "Someone to Light Up My Life" which features his own arrangements of the compositions of the great bossa nova composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, won international raves. Brazilian critic's and listener's polls also named him the best acoustic jazz guitarist. Gene Bertoncini has just released a striking new solo CD, "Quiet Now" on the heels of his highly successful "Acoustic Romance," which reached the top ten of the jazz playlists. Jazziz magazine's March 2004 issue ranked it Number 1 in their list of the top 20 acoustic guitar CDs.

Born in Upper Saddle River, NJ in 1952, Ed began playing the guitar at age 12. After studying with various teachers in and around the Bergen county area, he took lessons with the outstanding guitarist and banjo player, Bobby Domenic (uncle to jazz legend, Bucky Pizzarelli). Less than a year later, Ed began studying under the guidance of Bucky Pizzarelli and started playing the 7 string guitar in 1969. In 1974 after graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ with a degree in Business and Music he followed a dual career in both music and business. Ed is currently seen in local area restaurants and Jazz Clubs (Trumpets, The Deer Head Inn, Birdland, and Rivers Edge Cafe) performing with some of New Jersey's finest guitarists and musicians.

In the past year Ed, who is both a guitarist and vocalist, has performed with such great artists as Bucky Pizzarelli, Gene Bertoncini, John Pizzarelli, Paul Meyers, Martin Pizzarelli, Lenny Argese, Frank Vignola, Bill Wurtzel, Jack Wilkins, Howard Alden and a special guest appearance with the late Kenny Rankin.
